Attempted armed robbery in Naperville

These are incidents reported by the Naperville Police Department. Where charges have been filed, the report includes when and where the suspect was stopped or taken into custody and the nature of the charges.

Saturday, Nov. 1

Theft: A 29-year-old man reported that while he was shopping at 5:30 p.m. in a store in the 200 block of S. Route 59, someone stole his iPhone 5.

Thursday, Nov. 6

Attempted armed robbery: A 64-year-old man told police that he was approached around 12:40 a.m. in the 1300 block of Creighton Avenue by an individual who displayed a gun and attempted to rob him, but nothing was taken.

Driving under the influence: Kevin F. Guy, 23, 200 block W. Douglas Avenue; charge with driving under the influence of alcohol and a headlight violation at 12:50 a.m. near S. Brainard Street and Highland Avenue.

Driving too fast: Janet R. Kleinmaier, whose age and address were not provided, was cited for driving too fast/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after rear-ending another vehicle at 111th Street and 248th Avenue at about 7:45 a.m.

Driving too fast: An unidentified driver received a citation for driving too fast/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident at N. Washington Street and Warrenville Road around 8:33 a.m.

Driving too fast: Solomon O. Tachie, whose age and address were not provided, was ticketed for driving too fast/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after a rear-end collision around 9:01 a.m. near Book Road and 103rd Street.

Driving too fast: Naveed Abbas, whose age and address were not provided, received a ticket for driving too fast/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident at Wildcat Way and 95th Street at about 9:19 a.m.

No insurance: Faustino Cantu, whose age and address were not provided, was ticketed for operating an uninsured vehicle after a traffic accident near Diehl Road and Route 59 around 12:24 p.m.

Driving too fast: An unidentified driver was cited for driving too fast/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after a “rear end type accident” near Aurora Avenue and S. Route 59 at about 1:56 p.m.

Right of way violation: A school bus and a 2014 Ford Escape collided at about 2:45 p.m. near W. Diehl Road and Pebblewood Lane. No injuries were reported, and because police were “unable to determine if failure to yield or improper lane usage” was the cause of the accident, neither driver was given a ticket.

Hit and run: Between 3:30 and 4:15 p.m., an unoccupied vehicle parked in the 2500 block of W. 75th Street was struck.

Right of way violation: A 41-year-old male driver was hit by an unidentified other motorist who violated a right of way near W. Diehl Road and N. Washington Street at about 5:06 p.m.

Driving too fast: Nancy J. Brogato, whose age and address were not provided, was ticketed for driving too fast/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after causing a rear-end accident on southbound Washington Street near Clyde Drive at about 5:22 p.m.

Battery: Nelson E. Floyd, 18, Lisle; charged with resisting a peace officer, obstructing justice and theft of labor/services at 5:25 p.m. in the 1200 block of Ogden Avenue.

Improper lane usage: At about 6 p.m., two vehicles turning left from 95th Street onto northbound Route 59 collided while in the parallel left-turn lanes. “Both drivers related that they maintained lane integrity, unable to determine which vehicle was at fault,” and neither driver was ticketed.

No insurance: Brian J. Kruchten, whose age and address were not provided, was issued a citation for operating an uninsured vehicle after a minor accident in the 1500 block of Naperville-Wheaton Road at about 6 p.m.

Driving too fast: Edwin A. Bentain, whose age and address were not provided, received a ticket for driving too fast/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after rear-ending another vehicle near Aurora Avenue and West Street at around 6:42 p.m.

Marijuana possession: Mathew L. Arrington, 23, Portland, Ore., and Jordan A. Garrett, 19, Bonita Springs, Fla.; both were charged with possession of marijuana at 9:22 p.m. in the 200 block of S. Route 59.

No insurance: Simone M. Harris, whose age and address were not provided, was ticketed for improper lane usage and Christy A. James, whose name and address were not provided either, received a ticket for operating a vehicle without insurance and expired registration after Harris’ SUV ran James’ minivan off the road near E. Gartner Road and Naper Boulevard at about 9:42 p.m., causing the minivan to strike a curb, police said.

Suspicious incident: A 16-year-old girl reported that between 9:06 and 9:51 p.m., a cable was pulled from her house while she was at home watching television in the 3700 block of Highknob Circle.

Friday, Nov. 7

No license: An unidentified driver was ticketed for driving without a license at 7:47 a.m. after a three-vehicle rear-end collision near Modaff Road and 75th Street.

Driving too fast: An unidentified driver received a ticket for driving too fast/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident at about 8:20 a.m. after a rear-end accident near Gartner Road and W. 75th Street.

Driving too fast: An unidentified driver was cited at about 8:20 a.m. for driving too fast/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after rear-ending another vehicle at Hobson Road and S. Naper Boulevard.

Driving too fast: At about 11:15 a.m., an unidentified driver was issued a ticket for driving too fast/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident near Ranchview Dirve and 75th Street.

Hit and run: A car parked in a lot in the 100 block of S. Washington Street was struck by another vehicle at about noon.

Driving too fast: An unidentified driver received a ticket for driving too fast/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after a rear-end collision near Aurora Avenue and Ogden Avenue around 7 p.m.

Marijuana possession: Paul R. Salopek, 30, 700 block Woodewind Drive; charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and violating a traffic control device near Brookdale Road and Route 59 at about 8:11 p.m.

Speeding: Michael A. Henderson, 22, Bolingbrook; cited for driving 26 to 35 miles per hour over the speed limit after he was clocked at 74 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone near Hillview Drive and Plainfield-Naperville Road at about 8:58 p.m.

DUI: Darius Petraitis, 45, Aurora; charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage at about 9:36 p.m. near W. 75th Street and Fort Hill Drive.

No license: Joshua J. Thomas, 19, 500 block Fessler Avenue; charged with driving on a suspended or revoked license and obstructed windshield or front/side window at about 11:04 p.m. in the 300 block of Apple River Drive.

Speeding: George K. Anastassov, 38, 1800 block Tamahawk Lane; charged with speeding more than 35 miles per hour over the limit after he was recorded traveling at 80 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone near Hillview Drive and Plainfield-Naperville Road around 11:12 p.m.

Marijuana possession: A passenger in a car traveling near 103rd Street and S. Route 59 was ticketed for possession of marijuana at about 11:38 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 8

No license: Jalen Grady, 21, Crest Hill; charged with driving without a license, operating a vehicle without insurance and no front/rear plate or permit displayed at about 12:03 a.m. in the 1800 block of Robert Lane.

Fake ID: An unidentified minor was reported illegally using identification for age misrepresentation in the 0-100 block of W. Chicago Avenue at 12:16 a.m.

Theft: Daniel Gomez, 24, Aurora, and Omar Gonzalez, 24, Aurora; charged with theft after they were seen stealing a sign and a table from a business in the 0-100 block of W. Jefferson Avenue at about 1:15 a.m. Gonzalez also was cited for battery and resisting a police officer.

DUI: Mark J. Mullan, 46, Plainfield; charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and disobeying a traffic signal near 95th Street and Route 59 at about 1:43 a.m.

Marijuana possession: A driver and passenger, neither of whom was identified, both were ticketed for marijuana possession at about 2:43 a.m. near Bluebird Lane and Swallow Street.

Property damage: A resident in the 300 block of Tanoak Lane reported that between 12:30 and 5 a.m., a window of her house was broken.

Vehicle trespass: A resident in the 1300 block of Carleton Circle reported that between 1 and 8 a.m., her 14-year-old son took her vehicle without permission.

Driving too fast: An unidentified driver received a ticket for driving too fast/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident near School Street and N. Brainard Street at about 9:08 a.m.

No insurance: An unidentified driver was cited for driving without insurance after a read-end accident near Ring Road and S. Washington Street at about 12:39 p.m.

Suspended license: An unidentified driver was cited for driving with a suspended license and failure to yield right of way near Book Road and W. 75th Street at about 2:13 p.m.

Driving too fast: An unidentified driver received a ticket for driving too fast/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after a two-vehicle collision involving property damage near E. Fifth Avenue and Columbia Street at about 2:37 p.m.

Theft: A store worker in the 1900 block of W. Jefferson Avenue reported that between 3:50 and 4:39 p.m., someone left the establishment with two video games and a compact disc without paying for them.

Driving too fast: An unidentified driver received a ticket for driving too fast/failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after a rear-end accident in the 1300 block of S. Route 59 at about 5:05 p.m.

Improper start: One vehicle ran into another while at the stoplight at S. Washington Street and W. Van Buren Avenue around 5:44 p.m.

No license: An unidentified driver was ticketed for having no valid license after causing an accident near E. Ogden Avenue and N. Columbia Street at about 9:03 p.m.

Arson: Someone set fire to playground equipment in the 2400 block of Meadow Lake Drive around 9:48 p.m.

Property damage: Someone threw a pumpkin at a mailbox in the 3300 block of Danlaur Court between 8:30 and 11:30 p.m., damaging both.

DUI: Nancy Baldwin, 63, Westmont; charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, operating an uninsured vehicle, improper lane usage and making an improper turn at an intersection at 11:54 p.m. at Martin Avenue and West Street.

Sunday, Nov. 9

Paraphernalia possession: Yasir N. Hockla, 20, Aurora; charged with posession of drug paraphernalia at about 3:11 a.m. in the 800 block of E. Ogden Avenue.

Improper lane usage: An unidentified driver was issued a citation for improper lane usage at about 2:40 a.m., after losing control in the construction zone of southbound Route 59 near North Aurora Road, striking four construction barrels and a sign.

DUI: Kenneth R. Swan, 23, South Elgin; charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, driving on a suspended or revoked license and improper lane usage at about 2:48 a.m. near Audrey Avenue and Route 59.

Speeding: Maribel B. Ines, 48, Crest Hill; arrested on an outstanding warrant after she was pulled over for speeding near S. Route 59 and Audry Avenue around 6:20 a.m.

Improper lane usage: An unidentified driver sideswiped an unoccupied vehicle parked near N. Brainard Street and School Street at about 11:17 a.m.

Burglary: Someone tried to break the lock on a Pods storage container in the 200 block of Douglas Avenue around 2:13 p.m.

Battery: Austin L. Durbin, 21, 2200 block of Petworth Court; charged with battery after allegedly punching another person in the face in the 0-100 block of E. Chicago Avenue at 3:12 p.m.

Theft: A wallet was taken from an unlocked locker in the 700 block of Royal St. George Drive around 3:20 p.m.

Theft: A retail theft was reported in the 2500 block of W. 75th Street at 7:12 p.m.

Theft: Melanie R. Hoday, 22, 2600 block Flagstone Circle, and Sallie Lynn P. Persin, 20, 1100 block Elizabeth Avenue; both charged with retail theft in the 2500 block of W. 75th Street at about 7:44 p.m.

Underage drinking: Noah Z. Budd, 19, 300 block Pearson Circle; charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor, criminal trespass to a vehicle, driving without a license and resisting arrest at 8:01 p.m. near Plank Road and Milton Drive.
